Stop Blaming Nurses And Await Mamelodi Hospital Incident Probe, Says DENOSA by Idowu Olabode : June 01, 2019, 08:01:13 AM
The Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (Denosa) cautions the Gauteng health MEC from making premature conclusions on the Mamelodi Hospital incident.

This is after a video of an elderly woman who is seen tied to a steel bench at the hospital was making rounds on social media.

Denosa provincial chairperson Simphiwe Gada says there is a false narrative that nurses at the hospital are in the wrong. He calls on people to wait for a thorough investigation before making conclusions.

The minister and the public must not fall into the trap of concluding before you have all the facts.
    — Simphiwe Gada, Provincial chairperson - Denosa

Restraining a patient is not something that is foreign in the medical field, it happens when you've got reasons to believe that the patient is either dangerous to themselves or those around them.
    — Simphiwe Gada, Provincial chairperson - Denosa

But it is done to a particular degree, exercising caution and ensuring that the rights of the patient are protected.
    — Simphiwe Gada, Provincial chairperson - Denosa

We must be able to get to the bottom of this. We cannot just conclude that it is nurses when it is alleged that security guards are the ones who restrained this patient.
    — Simphiwe Gada, Provincial chairperson - Denosa

Gada says the criticism should not target nurses in this regard when no one knows what really transpired. He says people should act informed by facts and within the ambit of the law.
