Nurse In Ireland Faces Allegations Of Falsifying Work Reference by Idowu Olabode : August 29, 2019, 01:08:43 PM

A nurse is facing allegations that she falsified a work reference from a nursing home here.

Nurse A is before a Nursing and Midwifery Board inquiry and facing alleged professional misconduct and an alleged breach of the nursing code of conduct.

She denies the allegations which relate to 2016.

A complaint was made by the nursing home to the Nursing Board about nurse A and the purported reference.

It is also alleged that nurse A misrepresented her employment to a nursing on-call agency, by suggesting she was still employed at the home.

Edward Mathews, Irish Nurses & Midwives Organisation, for nurse A said she strongly denied the allegations.

Mr Mathews told the inquiry that prior to these events, the nurse had made a complaint to the Health Information & Quality Authority about the home, relating to heat and hot water and also concerns regarding the care and custody of a diamond ring owned by a resident.

Nurse A later worked at another nursing home.

She was working at that home, prior to her reference from the earlier home being verified.

Barrister Eoghan O'Sullivan, for the Nursing and Midwifery Board said the reference letter was falsified and eulogised nurse A.

The inquiry heard that the headed notepaper on which the reference was written was not used for several years, except for internal use.

The name of the home was also misspelled as two words, on four occasions and in it residents were called patients, a term the home did not use.

The inquiry opened in public today but in the afternoon, following an application by barrister Eoghan O'Sullivan for the NMBI CEO, the Fitness to Practice Committee asked the media that the names of the witness and the homes be anonymized.
