International Nurses Day 2019: Zambia Govt Releases New Nursing Curriculum by katty : May 12, 2019, 02:18:03 PM
Ministry of Health has developed a new module aimed at training nurses and midwives in sign language and brail.
Central Province Minister, Sydney Mushanga says training of health personnel  in sign language  and brail will improve communication with the deaf and visionally challenged persons accessing health services.

Mr. Mushanga says it is governments vision  of ensuring that no one is left behind in accessing health care services in the country.

He said this in a speech read for him by Central Province Permanent Secretary, Benard Chomba , during this year’s International Nurses’ Day celebrations in Chibombo district.

Mr. Mushanga stated that Government has this year deployed 236 registered nurses to Central Province on first appointment in the current recruitment exercise.

He says  the Ministry of Health  has been  training more health personnel at Chitambo School of Nursing, Kabwe School of Nursing and Midwifery and public health nurses at Mwachisompola Community Health Assistant Training School.

Mr. Mushanga says government was also in the process of opening a new training school for nurses and midwives in Serenje District of Central Province.

Speaking at the same function, Zambia Union of Nurses Organisation (ZUNO) president, Tisa Chiponda  says her organisation is concerned with the decrease in the allocation to the health sector in terms of the national budget this year.

In a speech read on her behalf by ZUNO Trustee, Phyllis Litiya , Ms Chiponda  appealed to government to invest in the nursing and midwifery workforce.

The theme for this year’s International Nurses Day is commemorated under the theme: Nurses: A Voice to Lead, Health for all.
