India: Fake Nurse arrested for Injecting Patients in Hospital Nurse Suspended by katty : January 22, 2019, 01:47:29 PM
-The nurse on duty left the ward with utility room opened. The woman strayed in, took injections and administered it to at least 8 patients

Police on Monday arrested the woman who allegedly administered injections to eight patients in Sambalpur district headquarters hospital on Saturday night by posing as a nurse.

Police said the woman, Lily Jal of Nayapara in A N Guha lane in the city, has been arrested under sections 448, 324 and 440 of the IPC.

Lily entered the male medicine ward of the hospital on Saturday night and administered injections and saline to at least eight patients, identifying herself as a nursing staff member. She also asked the attendants of the patients to leave the ward. Since she was authoritative and the hospital security guard was accompanying her, the patients did not doubt her intentions.

Sub-divisional police officer (SDPO), Sambalpur, Bhawani Sankar Udgata said, “We traced the woman after watching CCTV footage. During interrogation, the woman said she had an altercation with her family on Saturday night. Later, she went to the hospital to sleep.”
“She entered the nurses’ duty room, which was vacant at the time, and sat there for some time. Later, she took the injections, which were in the duty room, and administered them to the patients in the male medicine ward,” Udgata added.

The SDPO said the woman is suspected to be unbalanced. “When we asked her why she administered the injections, she said she had seen how an injection is administered. When she saw the injections in the duty room, she felt like doing it herself,” said police. The hospital authorities on Monday suspended the nurse, Rajani Sahu, who was on duty at the ward where the incident took place and disengaged the on-duty security guard, Pramanand Vineet.

Additional district medical officer, Ashok Dash, said, “Had the nurse who was on duty not left the ward, this incident would not have happened. She had also left the duty room open. Hence, she has been suspended for dereliction in duty.”

“Moreover, though the security guard was there in the ward, he did not stop the woman from entering it,” Dash said. He also said nothing had happened to the patients who had been administered the injections. He further said security had been beefed up at the hospital after the incident. “We have started issuing passes to visitors. No outsider will be allowed to enter the wards without a pass,” he added.
