Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi has reiterated the commitment of his administration to the welfare of nurses and provision of the necessary enabling working environment for them to ensure qualitative health care services to people of the state.

Fayemi described nurses as veritable stakeholders in the health sector whose impact cannot be quantified.

The governor who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr Biodun Omoleye, said this in Ado Ekiti on Monday during the opening of the International Nurses’ Week.

“The present administration in Ekiti State holds nurses in high esteem and will continue to do everything possible to guarantee their wellbeing. The government will equip health facilities in the state with modern equipment that would make the jobs of the nurses and all other medical and health workers less stressful,” he said.

The Dean, Faculty of Nursing Sciences, College of Health Science, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Prof Bayo Ajibade, while delivered the keynote address urged nurses to always familiarise themselves with modern trends in the profession.

The Chairman, Ekiti State Council of Traditional Rulers, Oba Adebanji Alabi, urged state government to place priority on the needs of nurses, who he described as the engine room of the health sector.

The monarch advised the nurses to always discharge their duties with love and integrity in accordance with the ethics of their profession.

The State Chairman, National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, Mr Kayode Fatomiluyi, called on the state government to attend to some of the requests of the association before it for optimal performance.
