Good evening Idowu and thanks so much for the good work you are doing. Inspired by Royalty thread, I started my USA registration journey. II am heading for Texas. Although I haven't gone far as I'm still expecting my cgfns ces report but here are few of the things I have done.
1. Started cgfns ces report for Texas Board of Nursing last year April and expecting my ces report any moment from now.
2. Ordered for FBI fingerprints card and already in transit back to USA after fingerprinting and police report
3. Applied to the Texas Board of Nursing just last week.

By tomorrow I'm going to give details of these steps so far including the cost analysis. I'm a self applicant based in Nigeria.

Thanks so much once again Pecu

26/02/2018 Update

Apr 16 2017 I created an account with CGFNS using the Guide by Royalty found here  http://nursesarena.com/travel-nursing/my-journey-to-nursing-registration-in-usa/  (I didn’t send my secondary school result because if you have graduated from secondary school more than 10 years ago, secondary school result is waived.

Apr 27 2017 I made payment of $350 for my application (Then Nigeria cards were disabled for international payment so I used a friend dollar account)

I printed the transcript request form and sent it to my school which cost N21,000 with EMS postage.

I equally sent that of Nursing and Midwifery Council for Verification of results which cost N8,750

Jun 16 2017 CGFNS acknowledged the receipt of my Nursing School Transcripts (That’s like 3 weeks after it was actually delivered to them)

Jul 07 2017 CGFNS acknowledged the receipt of verification of license report from Nursing Council

Oct 12 2017
I received a customed mail from cgfns that they need more information from my school of Nursing. I printed the attached form and alas they needed just 2 things (The date I graduated and the category of certificate awarded ). Funny enough these two things were already stated in my transcript. The required information was sent early November and by Dec 04 2017 cgfns acknowledged the receipt of the document.

December 9, 2017 I requested for FBI fingerprint card through Texas Board of Nursing Website https://www.bon.texas.gov/forms/web-requests.asp

January  2, 2018 I sent my application to a friend in USA to assist me in raising bankdraft for the application. to the Texas Board of Nursing. I later emailed the board to ask whether they accept the scanned copy and they said yes. This got to USA on the 5th of February 2018 because I used normal post office which cost less than N1,000. To download the Texas Board of Nursing Application Form for internationally educated nurse click https://www.bon.texas.gov/pdfs/forms_pdfs/examination_pdfs/RNExam_2018-03-01.pdf

Jan 25 2018 I received message from cgfns that I should use a correct address so that writing my report can commence (I used P.O BOX as my address in my cgfns profile instead of home address). I updated the information and even sent them a mail.

January 27, 2018 The fingerprint card I requested for arrived

January 30, 2018 I registered with Identogo click https://uenroll.identogo.com/workflows/11G64G when you get to the site click “submit fingerprint card by Mail” then click on “Pay for Ink Card Submission” and complete the application. Note that you will need to know your weight, height, eye color etc before you can complete the application. Application cost $37 which I paid with my GTB naira card. After this you will need to print the summary page, sign it and put it inside the FBI fingerprint card you collected.

February 5, 2018. I went to police headquarters in my state- Alagbon Ikoyi Lagos to be fingerprinted . I collected police report and emailed the fingerprint card, police report and printout from Identogo website and send to the address on the printout. The police report and fingerprint stuff cost me N7,500 but can be cheaper if you bargain very well. I sent it via EMS for approximately N11,000

I wrote cgfns again on Feb 07 2018 to confirm whether they have updated my information from their end and they said yes and that they just notified my assessor and he will begin work on my report after 3 weeks. I was like mogbe

February 12, 2018 My application was sent to Texas Board of Nursing

February 21, 2018 Identogo confirmed that they have received my fingerprint card for criminal background check

February 22, 2018 Identogo confirmed that the fingerprint card has been processed

February 22, 2018 My information appeared on the Website of Texas Board of Nursing. To check your application status click https://www.bon.texas.gov/forms/applstatus.asp

February23, 2018 My fingerprint information appeared on the Texas Board of Nursing website

The remaining outstanding issues are: CGFNS report, Online Jurisprudence Exam which I am already preparing to do by middle of  March and register with Pearson ($200)

Special thanks to Peculiar who founded Nursesarena.com  for the guidance so far. I will keep editing this post as time goes on and events unfold so as not to create an unnecessary long thread.

Note: I learnt other credential evaluation services are faster than cgfns. You can research them and if your board is accepting them use them instead of cgfns which takes eternity if you are not ready for expedite services

12/3/2018 Update

I just sat for and passed the Online Nursing Jurisprudence exam. The exam is 50 questions to be completed in 2 hours. It is based majorly on Nursing Practice Act, Board Position Statements and Board Rules and Regulations. Cost: Free. Below are the links to these documents:
1. Nurse Practice Act in PDF https://www.bon.texas.gov/pdfs/law_rules_pdfs/nursing_practice_act_pdfs/NURSINGPRACTICEACT2017.pdf You can equally read it directly online if you don't have PDF reader. Here is the link https://www.bon.texas.gov/laws_and_rules_nursing_practice_act_2017.asp

2. Board Rules and Regulations PDF https://www.bon.texas.gov/pdfs/law_rules_pdfs/rules_regulations_pdfs/bon_rr_Feb2018.pdf To read it online check https://www.bon.texas.gov/laws_and_rules_rules_and_regulations_current.asp

You will find the position statements on the Board's website.

How to Register for Texas Online Nursing Jurisprudence Exam

Just go to https://www.bon.texas.gov/licensure_nursing_jurisprudence.asp scroll down and click on register, then fill the form and agree with the terms. Just ensure that your first name, last name and date of birth correspond with the information in your BON account so as to facilitate easy transmission of results.

Note that before you begin your exam, you will be asked to provide answers to some questions. Please note the answers as they will continue to ask you those answers every 15 minutes or thereabout.

Re: US Nurse Registration Step-by-Step Guide for Foreign Educated Nurses by Betiks : February 27, 2018, 06:51:06 AM
Thanks a lot walex for this great insight, and to peculiar for this forum.
I have my CES report already and it was said to have been sent to Texas BON. This was sometime in November, but am yet to hear anything from them despite several emails, I have also checked the website severally but it keeps giving error.
With your explanation I think its because I have not paid the fees for registration and am also yet to do the  finger prints.
Asides these is there any other thing I need to know.
Thank you.

Re: US Nurse Registration Step-by-Step Guide for Foreign Educated Nurses by walex : February 27, 2018, 09:03:23 AM
Hello Betiks, yes it's because you don't have an account with them yet. My advice for you now is to go to Texas Nursing Board website and download the application form. Fill the application page only, sign it and send it to the Texas board of Nursing with bank draft of $100 drawn in USA. You can also request for the fingerprint card using the link above (but make sure you use a functioning postal address otherwise you won't receive it. Had it been I haven't wasted mine I would have sent it to you (you will be given 2 but you need just one so when you make mistake on one you can use the other one)

When your account is created with them, you will be able to see your cgfns report and other outstanding documents.

Hope this helps?

Re: US Nurse Registration Step-by-Step Guide for Foreign Educated Nurses by Betiks : February 27, 2018, 03:43:34 PM
Thanks walex, how do I raise a draft of 100 dollars and also will the application be sent by post  with the $100 draft.
Thanks.

Re: US Nurse Registration Step-by-Step Guide for Foreign Educated Nurses by walex : March 04, 2018, 12:13:37 PM
You will need to contact someone like friends, family. Members etc residing in USA to help you out. They also accept cheques drawn in USA banks too. Both the form and the application fees should be in the same envelope.

Re: US Nurse Registration Step-by-Step Guide for Foreign Educated Nurses by Betiks : March 06, 2018, 07:37:33 PM

Re: US Nurse Registration Step-by-Step Guide for Foreign Educated Nurses by Wendest : March 07, 2018, 09:20:03 PM
Evening walex. I am currently waiting for my schools and nmcn to send my documents, although I have sent my secondary school certificate. I want to know if there is anyother step I can start while I wait. And I don't really understand the finger print stuff u wrote about. I am processing for California. Thanks in anticipation of your response.

Re: US Nurse Registration Step-by-Step Guide for Foreign Educated Nurses by walex : March 08, 2018, 11:29:16 PM
@Betiks, since the person is going to USA from Nigeria simply fill your application, sign it and give it to her to take along. When she gets there she can purchase the draft and together with the application form send it. There is no point scanning the form to her just fill it and hand it over to her.

@Snow, Honestly I tried the site several times and got same response before I was lucky. I will advice you contact the webmaster using the email address in the screenshot  so that they can help you in fixing that.

@Wendest, fingerprinting is one of the requirements before you can be issued authorization to test. Yu will be required to submit your fingerprint to the nursing board so that they can run a search on it in FBI and State police database to make sure the applicant is not a criminal. Since you are going to California, request for the card from the California Board of Nursing by filling the application on this link https://www.dca.ca.gov/webapps/rn/requests.php I can't really help further as I don't know much about California registration process but I know they request for ITN or SSN before they can issue license.

Hope this helps?
Update: I just read that you will have to pay $49 for processing of the card. Read the registration handbook http://www.rn.ca.gov/pdfs/applicants/exam-app.pdf

Re: US Nurse Registration Step-by-Step Guide for Foreign Educated Nurses by Betiks : March 09, 2018, 09:56:52 AM
Thanks once again walex,I have been able to register for the finger prints and also paid for the finger prints card. What do I do next. Thank you.

Re: US Nurse Registration Step-by-Step Guide for Foreign Educated Nurses by walex : March 09, 2018, 10:09:57 PM
Hello Betiks, you should have hold on until you get your fingerprint card before you register with identogo. No problem though. Since you seems not to know the process here is what you should do next:
1. Send your application form with your money through your friend to Texas Board of Nursing
2. Start preparing for the jurisprudence exam by reading the Texas Nurse Practice Act and other documents. As soon as your friend sent in your application, your information will appear online with your cgfns report and other outstanding. You can then take Jurisprudence exam, register with Pearson with $200 and once your fingerprint is settled you will receive authorization to write nclex

Hello guys I just came across this: California Nursing Board has increased it application and registration fees. Application fees from foreign educated nurses is now $750 which is like #270, 000. Here is the link to other fees http://www.rn.ca.gov/consumers/fees-new.shtml

Re: US Nurse Registration Step-by-Step Guide for Foreign Educated Nurses by Wendest : April 02, 2018, 06:57:48 AM
Good day walex and everyone..  Please is it possible to change my state on the cgfns website? .  Example  from California to Texas...  Because this new California fees is killing.  :'(

Re: US Nurse Registration Step-by-Step Guide for Foreign Educated Nurses by walex : April 02, 2018, 07:24:26 AM
Morning Wendest, it's absolutely possible to change from one state to another on cgfns website but I don't know if there is an associated fee. But note that California does not need cgfns, they conduct their own assessment.

Wages for nurses in California is very high ( like above $40 per hour) compared with other states I guess that's part of the reasons for increasing the fees arbitrarily.

Re: US Nurse Registration Step-by-Step Guide for Foreign Educated Nurses by Wendest : April 02, 2018, 07:35:40 AM
Thanks for the prompt response walex. But the application fee is too high...  Plus I am having issues with SSN...  I saw somewhere that California doesn't accept application without  SSN.. still trying to get information on that.

Re: US Nurse Registration Step-by-Step Guide for Foreign Educated Nurses by walex : April 02, 2018, 08:07:28 AM
In the past it used to be solely SSN which you can't get unless you've started working in USA but now they accept ITN which you can get when you are on B1/B2 visa. Someone once told me an alien can get ITN too (Don't know how true this is). Just email the customer service and see their response.

But I thought you already paid the application fees before

Re: US Nurse Registration Step-by-Step Guide for Foreign Educated Nurses by Wendest : April 04, 2018, 02:53:52 AM
Thanks walex...  I will check up the ITN...  and no I didn't pay for the application fee yet.

Re: US Nurse Registration Step-by-Step Guide for Foreign Educated Nurses by walex : April 27, 2018, 07:23:45 AM
Hello Wendest, you should use the paper application and not online. Download the Texas Board of Nursing Application Form for internationally educated nurse click https://www.bon.texas.gov/pdfs/forms_pdfs/examination_pdfs/RNExam_2018-03-01.pdf

You should also go over my posts above and you will find some answers to other likely questions you may have.

Thanks walex .

Re: US Nurse Registration Step-by-Step Guide for Foreign Educated Nurses by walex : April 29, 2018, 01:52:54 PM
@Snow,not at all cgfns is just time consuming and now they have stopped the expedite service. They requested more documents from school in March so I just sent those documents not quite long. Were you able to sort out the fingerprint card stuff?

Re: US Nurse Registration Step-by-Step Guide for Foreign Educated Nurses by Snow : April 29, 2018, 05:34:38 PM
@walex, Concerning the finger print, I was able to do so, thank you, although I am still waiting for it.

Thanks wale for this writeup and I wish you the best in your pursuit. Please, I am a starter and I want to know if I need to do CES with cgfns before registering with Texas BON as I have read here or I register with BON before CES application? Thank you

Re: US Nurse Registration Step-by-Step Guide for Foreign Educated Nurses by walex : July 06, 2018, 12:10:43 AM
it depends on how you want to go about it @nursejay. It takes between 4-12months for cgfns results to be ready while application and other things with nursing board can be completed within 1 month

Re: US Nurse Registration Step-by-Step Guide for Foreign Educated Nurses by Wendest : October 09, 2018, 03:41:50 AM
@walex.
I think I made a mistake in filling out my Texas application form.  The place that they asked last practice date, I think I was supposed to write till date (since I am still practicing), but I filled in the date I signed the documents, which is about 4 months ago.  Do u know if there is anything I can do to correct dat?.
Thanks
