Oncology Nursing Course in Nigeria by Idowu Olabode : January 06, 2015, 09:38:14 PM
Oncology nursing is an emerging nursing specialty.   Oncology Nurses provide care for cancer patients and those at risk of getting the disease. They monitor physical conditions and administer chemotherapy and other treatments. It is one of the most challenging and rewarding fields in nursing and no two days on the job are ever the same according to an article on Johnson Johnson.

In Nigeria, the rising incidence of cancer among Nigerians have necessitated the need for oncology nurses.  As at the time of typing this, oncology nursing exist only in National Hospital Abuja as a diploma course for registered nurses.

The form cost #5,000; usually out in May/June  and minimum requirements are;  Registered Nurse and 5 O level credit pass in physics, chemistry, biology and English and mathematics.

The tuition fees is quite high according to unconfirmed source but there are external funding to assist you. APCA scholarship http://nursesarena.com/scholarships/palliative-care-scholarship-for-nurses/ is specially designed for oncology nurses in Africa and you may want to consider giving it a shot.
