A Reading man has traded in his hospital room for a jail cell.

Police on Friday announced the arrest of Rosendo Coca-Baldo for allegedly assaulting a nurse while he was a patient at Reading Hospital in West Reading.

The nurse told police she saw Coca-Baldo attempting to walk into another patient's room on December 4, when she advised him to stop.

Coca-Baldo told the nurse to get away from him, stating, "I'm going to kill you," according to an affidavit of probable cause.

Coca-Baldo then confined the nurse to the rear nursing station area as he started swinging his hands, striking the nurse on her chin, police said.

The suspect then struck the nurse with a bag of urine, causing the bag to break loose and the contents to spill on her, according to the court documents, which added that Coca-Baldo also threw a chair at the nurse, striking one of her hands and both legs, and spit on the front of her shirt.

The nurse suffered red marks to her chin; a laceration, bruising and swelling on one of her thumbs; and pain in her right hand, police said.
