Provincial nursing organizations to host Facebook Live discussion on May 30 by katty : May 08, 2018, 06:06:31 AM
Nursing associations representing all three categories of nursing in Ontario will be participating in a Facebook Live discussion on May 30 under the theme Stronger Together. Participants include the Registered Practical Nurses Association of Ontario (RPNAO), Registered Nurses who are independent members of the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) living in Ontario, known as CNAOntario, and the Nurse Practitioners' Association of Ontario (NPAO). Participants will share their knowledge and insights and will respond to questions from members, nurses and the public.

The focus of the discussion is to cultivate an open dialogue about role clarity in nursing, including the overlapping yet distinct and complementary roles of each nursing category and the valuable contributions of all three categories of nurses, in all sectors of Ontario's health care system.

Changes to educational preparation and scope of practice, coupled with variations in nursing care delivery models, have resulted in varying degrees of role ambiguity and, in some instances, role conflict. In order to optimize the contributions of all nurses in the provision of high-quality patient care within and across the health care system, nursing care delivery models based on principles of collaboration and partnership allow for optimal teamwork and respect.

The Facebook Live discussion will take place on May 30 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Eastern time and can be accessed via RPNAO's Facebook page.

About CNAOntario

CNAOntario is an emerging organization, being developed by passionate RNs and NPs who are Independent Members of the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) and who live in Ontario. There are currently over 2,200 independent CNA members in the province. CNAOntario's vision is to connect members thus fully engaging Ontario CNA members with CNA initiatives, using a national lens, to positively influence health care and support a strong nursing voice for health care in Ontario and beyond.

About NPAO

Founded in 1973, the Nurse Practitioners' Association of Ontario (NPAO) is the voice of almost 3,400 Nurse Practitioners in the province. NPs practice autonomously and collaboratively with the health care team and work with patients of all ages and within all practice settings. NPAO advocates on behalf of the profession for innovative solutions for a "stronger and healthier Ontario".

About RPNAO

Founded in 1958, RPNAO is the voice of registered practical nursing in Ontario. There are approximately 43,000 RPNs working in Ontario, playing a vital role in the province's health care system.
