New Zealand Nurses to Vote on Government's Latest Pay Offer by katty : May 31, 2018, 06:08:35 PM
Nurses will vote on a new pay offer from the DHBs, possibly averting planned strikes in July.

The DHBs say the latest offer would see their income boosted by 9 percent - up to $200 a week - by the end of 2019, plus a cash payment of $2000

It's more generous than what an independent Government panel had come up with.

"From Tuesday 5 June through to Friday 15 June members will vote on whether to accept the offer or not and now need the space and time to carefully consider it," Industrial Services Manager Cee Payne said in a statement.

DHBs say it will raise a nurse's potential income to $93,000 a year, a figure the New Zealand Nurses Organisation (NZNO) said is unrealistic.

The NZNO will now survey its 29,500 members on whether to take the deal, or go on strike. The nationwide strikes - if they go ahead - will be the first since the 1980s, and take place on July 5 and 12.

The NZNO has previously rejected a 2 percent pay increase.
