NANNM Praises Jigawa On Free Maternal by katty : November 26, 2018, 05:01:03 PM
Mr Hazakilu Kore, Chairman, National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Jigawa chapter, on Monday commended the state government for spending N75million monthly on free maternal and child care programme.

Kore, who made the commendation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Hadejia, said the programme had saved the lives of many pregnant women and children in the state.

He also commended the government for paying salary arrears owed nurses from 2013 to 2017.

Kore said: “I must tell you that this government has consistently prioritised projects, programmes and policies that help to move the health sector forward since it came on board.

“It recently paid four years salary arrears of 320 nurses inherited from the previous government and absorbed all graduates of school of nursing in the state.

“The state government has also established College of Nursing, Hadejia, School of Midwifery, Babura and furnished them with state-of-the-art equipment.

He expressed the hope that the state NANNM secretariat called ‘Nurses House’, still construction, would be inaugurated in March, 2019, adding that completing the secretariat would be a landmark achievement of his administration.

“One of the legacies of my administration is the resumption of work on the project which was abandoned at 45 per cent completion by previous administrations.

“With absolute support of our members and prudent financial management, our set target of moving out of a two-bedroom rented apartment will soon become a reality.

“I am pleased to tell you that work is now nearing completion and by the grace of God, the Nurses House will be inaugurated by the end of first quarter of 2019.”

He said that his administration also designed the association’s strategic work plan to inspire ideas, uphold ethical values and enhance the knowledge and skills of members through training and retraining.

The chairman said the association organised the first scientific conference in Dutse, where members were trained on task shifting and task sharing.
