NANNM Commiserates with Adesuyi's Family, Wants Compensation for Fallen Nurses by Idowu Olabode : December 25, 2016, 12:08:13 AM
The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives has commiserated with the family of Nurse Adesuyi Bolanle who died earlier this week due to complications arising from Lassa Hemorrhagic fever diseases according to a press release obtained by Nursesarena.com.

The President of the association Nurse Abdrafiu Alani Adeniji described her loss as a tragic one to the profession in particular and the national at large.  In a release titled “Another Lassa Fever Outbreak: Litmus Test For The Emmergency Preparedness Of Our Nation”, the National president described her death as another sacrifice nurses and the nursing profession have been making for the healthcare system and the country at large. He therefore called on the Federal government to borrow a leaf from neighbouring countries to start adequate compensation for fallen heroes and heroines of our health sector deficiencies.

According to Nurse Adeniji, “The sacrifices of persons like Nurse Adesuyi Bolanle should not be in vain. A good way to start is to continue the payment of her salary to her immediate family till her would be retirement age and put measures in place to ensure that her retirement benefits are given to the family. We know that no amount paid can fill the vacuum created by her painful exit, this gesture will however grant succor to the family and serve as motivation for colleagues who daily put themselves in the line of duty for the safety and sanctity of the nation’s health system.”

Speaking further, the National president called on the government to immediately commence a comprehensive life insurance policy for all health workers in the frontline so as to cater for their loved ones should they fall victim while protecting and securing the health of Nigerians.

Late Nurse Adesuyi Bolanle until her death was an Assistant Chief Nursing Officer at the Federal Medical Centre Idi-Aba Abeokuta.
