|Kenya: Governor Mbugua gives Nakuru nurses 7 days to return to work or face sack by Idowu Olabode : January 04, 2017, 10:42:13 AM|
Nakuru governor Kinuthia Mbugua has ordered nurses in the county to return to work within the next 7 days or be sacked.
He said the county will not hesitate to hire new nurses if the current team fails to heed the directive that expires on Monday next week.
Mbugua said he cannot sit and see innocent Kenyans suffer because a few staff members have abdicated their duties.
He said nurses' issues were resolved and wondered why the group has remained adamant towards honouring their end of the deal.
Mbugua said it was clear that there were a few who wanted to see the crisis deepen without a clear agenda.
"We have begun the process of hiring new nurses and we will continue to do so in all our public health facilities," he said.
He said that after the expiry of the 7-day notice, the county will advertise for the positions left by the striking nurses.
"I call upon parents whose children have undergone nursing courses to start preparing them for the jobs should the nurses defy this order," he said.
The governor issued the directive during a prayer ceremony for the Maasai community at Namucha in Mai Mahiu, Naivasha.
He said services at the county's public health facilities were running well, safe for the challenge posed by the medic's strike.
"We are on. Our services have not been affected because some of the nurses have gone back to work and are carrying on with the services normally," he said.
