Dubai: With the aim of preparing nurses for a leadership role, the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) recently conducted a training programme for more than 100 nurses working with its various entities. These nurses will join the existing 400 nurses who have graduated in leadership and management since 2014.

Dr Ahmad Bin Kalban, CEO of Hospital Services Sector at the DHA, said: “We aspire to develop Dubai as an international medical hub and our work force is our backbone, therefore we understand nursesarena.com the importance of training and leadership skills. The DHA has empowered nurses to undertake leadership responsibilities in order to enhance team spirit and foster growth of the sector.”

Farida Al Khaja, Director of Clinical Support Services at Dubai Hospital, said: “Such training programmes are important to help develop the workforce." She said such programmes enhance career satisfaction and growth and helps the workforce to stay in touch with latest development in their field.”

Fouad Chehab, Director of Nursing at Dubai Hospital and Chairperson of the Director of Nursing Forum at DHA, said: “The training programme consists of eight workshops and assignments that take place over a period of two months. The programme has 40 continuing medical education hours by the medical education department at DHA and soon the programme will have international affiliations. It’s aim is to train the nursing workforce for the managerial roles in the future.”

He added that the programme also includes the development of leadership, entrepreneurial, administrative, people management and supportive skills.
