2015 Global Hand Washing Day Nurses' Celebration by Idowu Olabode : October 12, 2015, 09:33:12 PM

This event if accorded overwhelming attention, will awake the consciousness of Nigerian parents, educators and all stakeholders on the urgent need to restore the hygiene culture in schools and homes and fully equip our children in the fight against disease outbreaks and spread.

- Educate school children, teachers and parents on the proper hand washing behaviors and techniques.
- Stimulate children and teachers to ensure that hand washing at schools become an everyday habit.
- Encourage stakeholders and parents/teachers associations to ensure that hand washing stations are built at schools.
- Advocate for a prioritization of hygiene policies by government and policy makers
- Create nationwide awareness among Nigerians on the need to ensure proper hand washing and hygiene practices in homes, schools and workplaces.

Activities outlined for the KOSSHE 2015 GHWD school visits are as follows:
Morning Assembly Introductory Health Talk on personal hygiene and benefits of hand washing.
Hand washing enlightenment, demonstrations and practical sessions by KOSSHE Health Ambassadors.
A Global Hand washing Day Enlightenment Program and Interactive session for teachers, parents and relevant stakeholders in children’s health and education.
Distribution of educational materials to increase public knowledge, information and awareness on benefits of hand washing.
Donation of hand washing buckets and containers, liquid soaps and sanitizing agents to beneficiaries of the 2015 KOSSHE school health visits. Donation of locally made hand washing storage plastics, liquid soaps and toiletries, hand sanitizers to the host school.
Distribution of gift Items such as writing materials, hand towels, hand wash products, wristband to school children.
TV/Radio Health Talks and Interviews featuring professional nurses and public health educators with discussions focused on latest techniques, research findings, significance and remarkable benefits of hygiene practices and proper hand washing in schools, homes and workplaces.
TV and Media coverage of events

Courtesy visits to underfunded public schools nominated as potential beneficiaries of the KOSSHE school health project. 
Posthumous Recognition for the nurse-heroine in last year’s the fight against the Ebola Viral Disease outbreak in Nigeria.
Celebration of the 1 year anniversary of WHO’s declaration of Nigeria as Ebola free (October 20, 2015).
