Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) has officially announced that the implementation of CPD requirement for all regulated professionals will not start until a new guideline is issued in March 2017. This is contained in a statement released by the commission and made available on its website. The announcement released yesterday read thus :

The Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Program Management Committee of the Professional Regulation Commission announces that the CPD compliance as a requirement for the renewal of Professional Identification cards (PICs) is not due for implementation until the issuance of the CPD General Implementing Guidelines which shall take effect in March 2017.

Recall that the CPD requirements for all professionals in different regulatory boards is based on the new law, Republic Act 10912 or the Continuing Professional Development Act of 2016 , which was passed this year July. PRC previously announced first quarter of 2017 as the take off date for it implementation which stakeholders advised a staged and  gradual increase in CPD unit requirements over the first few years.

As from 2017, nurses in Phillipines must have 45 units of Continuing Professional Development programs (CPD) as requirement for renewal of their Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) identification card or license according to the recently released PRC resolution no. 2016-990 entitled "Amendments to the Revised Guidelines on the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Program for All Registered and Licensed Professionals,"

Here are the released Guidelines:

*Professional Regulatory Boards (PRB) under PRC shall create CPD Councils composed of Chairperson and 2 members.

 *CPD Council accredits Local Providers and Foreign Providers of CPD Programs.

*All registered and licensed professionals shall complete the required CPD units every three years.

How Nurses Can earn CPD Units for PRC Card Renewal

The following tasks or activities can be counted towards CPD Units for renewal of PRC Card.

Attainment of higher academic qualifications such as master's or doctorate Degrees
Professional chair appointment,
Additional specialty/sub-specialty programs,
Fellowship grants,
Post-graduate diploma;
Self-Directed Training offered by non-accredited CPD providers evaluated by CPD Councils; or other such activities recommended by CPD Councils and approved by the Board and the Commission.

Professional Track and Self Directed Training may be in the form of face to face interaction or done online. Accredited CPD Providers may be
Local or Foreign.

You can renew your license without cpd units till june 2017.
January-June 2017 - 0 unit
July-December 2017 - 15 units
2018 - 30 units
2019 - 45 units
2020 onwards - 45 units
1 year before expiration you can renew through prc website.
